We are here to celebrate the heroism, valor, and loyalty of our armed forces and their families.
Katherine Cathey would not leave her husband’s casket and begged to be allowed to sleep beside him one last time. Second Lt. James Cathey, United States Marine Corps, was killed in Iraq. Her husband’s comrades made up a bed for her and tucked the sheets below the flag. She opened her laptop and played songs that brought to min Cat as he was called and one of the men asked if she would like them to stand guard while she slept. “Yes, thank you,” she replied, “I think he would have wanted that.”
Those nearby could not decide which was more stirring. The wife who was faithful to the end, or the fellow Marines standing guard, watching over them both. Remember the price of freedom is paid in blood. In honor of our service personnel.
