Christopher Reeve was famous for playing the role of Superman but gave the world inspiration as he shared his story about living and loving life as a quadriplegic. Although he is best known for his man-of-steel character, he had an extensive career and many other wonderful performances. Reeve gave 100 percent to everything he did and was highly competitive. At the age of 42, he was participating in equestrian jumping when his horse stopped short and he was flung out of the saddle. The accident permanently damaged his spinal cord and confined him to a wheelchair and respirator for the next 10 years. In the years following his accident, he applied the same zest and passion to raising awareness and support for spinal cord injuries and stem cell research. He wrote books and gave interviews about his physical, spiritual, and emotional journey and how to live life with dignity and sensitivity.
