There is a massive misconception that a cover letter for voice actors needs to be a massive document. There is the opinion that it needs to resemble a bachelor’s level thesis. It really does not! The purpose of the cover letter is to connect the voice actor with the potential client. It is not to sell a service as that is a product of the newly formed relationship. The purpose is simply to connect. The means of connecting comes in the form of being the solution to their problems.

Before we enter the next paragraph of this cover letter series, please imagine you are a company’s boss. As such, you are carrying out your daily duties, and every two minutes, you are interrupted. By whom? A complete stranger asking for work. Certainly, one can imagine this begins to become annoying. So, from the client’s perspective, the approach needs to be less about you ‘needing’ work and more about them and how you are the solution to their problem. It is a subtle difference to a degree, but a powerful one nonetheless, as the intention carries impact.

Example; “What availability do you have next week? I would love to invite you to a 20-minute virtual coffee Zoom chat. Of course, the coffee is on me! Let me know your address, and I would love to have an Uber/Deliveroo drop off a coffee.

Not everyone likes to spend money on cold leads; however, this is a business investment and draws excellent results. You will find that so few people will take up this offer, but it does spark conversation because it is so unusual. Additionally, those who take up the offer will be a friend for life – after all, who doesn’t love free coffee?

Cover Letter for Voice Talent Part Two Overview

Through this article, we discover the main learning point of this topic. That standing out from the crowd and differentiating yourself from the usual dry cold emailers draws results. But, if the potential client does accept your free coffee invitation and Deliveroo or Uber is unavailable, pop a Starbucks card in the post in advance! It is hard to imagine, but the one time you need those delivery services is when they won’t be available, so having a plan B is a good idea.
