The Dark Crystal is an American fantasy film from 1982 written by David Odell and produced by Gary Kurtz. It was directed by The Muppet Show creators Frank Oz and Jim Henson. It’s about an alien world with cruel Skeksis and good, elf-like Gelflings. They battle to restore balance and order by finding a shard from a powerful gem and returning it to its rightful place.
In another world, a thousand years ago in the age of wonder, this land was green and good. Strife began when the crystal cracked and a shard was lost. The gentle mystics live in the castle of the crystal, and their numbers have dwindled to only ten. They have ruled for a thousand years but now the hard and twisted Skeksis have taken control. They ravaged the land by drawing life from the sun and the dark crystal. The last of the Gelflings, Jen, was raised by the loving mystics and must now fulfill the prophecy by finding the shard and restoring the crystal.
