There are several generic pay to play sites out there that include voiceover and a bit of everything look at three of them and explain the similarities, differences, and unique selling points of each.

The King of Pay to Play Sites – Fiverr

Fiverr is an interesting platform as it has one of the biggest SEO’s a contractor could want. On top of that, it does not discriminate. Though Fiverr is free to use, they take a 20% cut off any jobs booked. They also offer subscription-based upsells and pay-per-click advertising, and they add fees to jobs hosted by casting directors and employers. Fiverr is not voiceover or entertainment specific. Instead, it is a platform that covers almost every service style imaginable.

On the subject of voice over, there is a lot of noise from the industry’s leaders that the platform is bad. The justification for this is that the rates, at first glance, look tough. The counterargument to this point is that the contractor has so many upsell options available to them they soon make their money. The other opposing argument is a contractor can charge what they want, but also, we cannot expect an indie animation company to have the same budget as Disney does.

Not So Generic but New to the Game – PeoplePerHour

PeoplePerHour deals a lot in voiceover and does not charge for a subscription. However, there is a subscription upgrade model available on the site, and they do take a rather hefty cut of work earned when measured against their competitors. Next to Upwork and Fiverr, it is certainly the underdog when looking at traction, subscribers, and clients. The platform has not been in service as long as Upwork and Fiverr and offers a good alternative to both platforms.

Competing Generic Pay to Play Site – Upwork

Upwork, like Fiverr, invites many different talents and skill sets. It differs because you can only use a limited amount of free access. Upwork issues a credit-styled function to the user where when they apply for work, it exhausts their credits. Upon exhausting all of the credit, the contractor can buy more credits to continue looking for work. The platform comes second to Fiverr for population and traction however it is exceptionally well-established and has a massive international presence.

What Generic Pay to Play Sites Offer

It is easy to just have a profile on every platform out there. Of course, each of these companies wants your money. The key is to ask yourself how you will earn money back. Becoming a master on the platform that works best for you is essential to capitalize on the profits. This is vital for the growth you want to see in your business. One important point to take on this topic is that there are no quick fixes in any industry. This could not be truer for voiceover, especially. So, with that in mind, it is vital for you to know that each of these platforms will require a lot of work and commitment. The algorithm works favorably for people who work hard in much the same way Google does.
