Seinfeld was born in Brooklyn on April 29, 1954, and grew up in Massapequa, Long Island. He joked that Massapequa was an old Indian term for “by the mall.” Returning to New York was a return to his roots. After Queens College, he performed at many comedy spots and did odd jobs like waiting tables at Brew and Burger and selling lightbulbs by phone. Over time his wry, observational style was honed into the polished act that is now his trademark.
