I have confidence that if all of us do our duty if nothing is neglected and all arrangments are complete, we shall prove we can defend our home once again. We can ride out the storm, and outlive the darkness of tyranny for years. If necessary we can do it for years, and that is what we will try to do. This is the resolve of His Majesty and every man of Government. It is the will of the nation and Parliament. The French Republic and the British Empire are joined in their cause to defend their native soil to the death. They will aid each other as comrades with all their strength. We shall keep fighting, in France, on the ocean, and in the air with growing strength and confidence. We will defend our Island no matter the cost, on the beaches, on the landing grounds, in the fields, in the streets, and in the hills. We will never surrender. If our Island was subjugated then our Empire over the seas and the British Fleet would carry the struggle until the New World steps forth to rescue and liberated the old.
