Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton got their starts with The Yardbirds, an English rock band formed in 1963. For five years the core artists and a series of guitar gods experimented with psychedelia, produced many hits, and helped define the music of the era. Jimmy Page was the lead guitarist in 1966 and soon after launched Led Zeppelin with ideas taken from the collaboration. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, ranked number 37 on Greatest Artists of Hard Rock on VH1, and landed number 89 on the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time by Rolling Stone.
