Timothy McVeigh was a Gulf War veteran who tried to insight a revolution against the government. He wrote letters complaining about taxes and believed the government had implanted a chip in him. In 1993 he joined his former roommate Terry Nichols and they built an explosive device and mounted it in a truck. He drove to the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995, and lit the two-minute fuse. The north half of the building was destroyed by a large explosion at 9:02 a.m. He caused the death of 168 people, among them 19 children, and injured another 684 people. Arrested shortly after, he was found guilty of 160 state offenses, 11 federal, and the use of a weapon of mass destruction in 1997. His death sentence was carried out on June 11, 2001, by lethal injection. It was the deadliest terrorist act in the U.S. prior to 9/11 and is still the deadliest act of domestic terrorism in history.
