Vita est Lavorum is pseudo-Latin for “life is a job” and was made familiar by Father Guido Sarducci. In the late 1970s, comedian and writer Don Novello created this fictional character and made prominent appearances on Saturday Night Live. Father Sarducci is a priest, a US gossip columnist, and a rock critic for a Vatican newspaper that is a take-off for the tabloid National Enquirer. One of his most notorious routines included the Father describing a secret letter from the Vatican that reveals the truth of life after death. Novello also wrote for Saturday Night Live and was featured on High Times magazine radio commercials offering to perform blessings for a modest fee.
