Whitney Warren was an artist, art collector, club man, and athlete, in addition to one of the most successful architectures of his time. He started his training at the Columbia University School of Architecture then the prestigious Ecole des Beaux-Arts, in Paris. The style was rooted in French neoclassicism and incorporated Renaissance and Baroque elements. It made use of modern materials such as glass and iron and was an important style until the end of the 19th century. Following a collaboration with real estate developer Charles Wetmore, they formed Warren & Wetmore, one of the most significant architectural practices in American history. Together they created expressions that exemplified national economic prosperity. The firm was awarded the Medal of Honor from the American Institute of Architects in 1917 for its influential and extraordinary work.
