In 1927, a real estate developer and entrepreneur named Fred Ponty, bought a 27-acre parcel of land situated on the Hudson River, in the northern part of Poughkeepsie, NY. On this land, Ponty went on to build an amusement park known as the Woodcliff Pleasure Park. The rise and fall of this park is not well known among the most recent generations of Poughkeepsie residents, but from 1927 until 1941, it was one of the premier amusement parks of its time.
